I work primarily with high school students, though I also work with some middle school and college students. I’m looking for students who are motivated to improve—kids who have specific academic goals and are willing to put in the effort to reach them. I’m at my best with a student who wants to understand the material, not just get through the assignment.
My strongest areas are math (algebra through AP Calculus AB), study skills and learning strategies, SAT/ACT preparation, and college essay writing. I can also help with most other high school subjects. After two decades working with high school students, there’s very little in the standard curriculum I haven’t helped someone learn.
I have a Master’s in Teaching and over 20 years of experience understanding how students learn, where they get stuck, and how to get them unstuck. I also hold a post-Master’s certificate in Educational Therapy and a board certification from the Association of Educational Therapists, which means I have specialized training in understanding the cognitive and emotional dimensions of learning.
Most tutors help with tonight’s homework or tomorrow’s test. I do that when it’s what’s needed, but my real focus is teaching students how to learn—building skills and strategies that transfer across subjects and last well beyond our time together.
Yes. I work with all students via Zoom. This has worked well for my students for several years now, and it means I can work with families anywhere—you don’t have to be in the Hartford area.
Most students meet with me once a week for a 50-minute session. Depending on their goals and timeline—for example, if we’re doing intensive SAT prep before a test date—some students may benefit from meeting twice a week. Whatever schedule we agree upon for your unique needs, consistent attendance is important to reaching your goals.
Call or email me. We’ll have an initial phone conversation to talk about your child and whether I think I can help. There’s no charge for that conversation.
